Park City
Tuesday 1 February 2011

Weather

Brutally cold. Temperature hovering around zero Fahrenheit at midday.

Conditions

Fresh snow overnight on top of groomed runs. Very few easy cruises.

Story of the Day

This turned out to be a bad day. I was looking for an opportunity to loosen my legs .. this didn't provide it. The overnight snow defeated the efforts of the grooming teams.

As usual, I picked up skis from Breeze on Foothill Drive, together with a heavily discounted 2 day Park City lift ticket. I got to Park City around 9:30.

The short cruise down to the bottom of First Time proved a number of things:

  1. I could still ski
  2. My skis were not in great condition
  3. The fresh snow was very "slow"

10:00 Eagle lift

The pictures from Eagle lift are misleading. The weather looks stunning, blue skies and sunshine. By the time I got to the top of the lift my face was burning with cold. Temptation was supposed to be groomed, but there was six inches of fresh snow. My legs were still very stiff and I found this run very challenging.

Up King Consolidated and even King Con face looked challenging. So for the first time ever, I took the easiest way day.

Finally, a cruise down Claimjumper provided an opportunity to cruise and allow my legs to relax.

Getting down to Mid Mountain was not easy. I took the easy route, but stalled in the fresh snow. A warming break was welcome.

11:19 Georgeanna Ridge

Feeling a little warmer, I headed up McConkeys Lift. Georgeanna ridge was very slow. Everyone seemed to stall and have to resort to poling.

After a slow ride on Pioneer, Jupiter Access was a good ski and Thaynes Canyon started off well, but eventually stalled.

By the time I had got to the top of Motherlode, I was feeling rather cold. I tried one more ride up Bonanza, but decided that I had enough.

Not a great day. By the time I finished, I was cold and my legs ached, Maybe, I was too old for skiing!
